UFC on FX 5’s Jussier da Silva Ready to ‘Showcase his Skills’
STUDIO MMA, RIVERSIDE, CA – At this Friday’s UFC on FX 5 flyweight prospect, Jussier “Formiga” da Silva, will make his anticipated octagon debut when he takes on ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ season 14 champ John Dodson. Many media outlets believe the winner will be the first title challenger to newly crowned inaugural UFC flyweight champion, Demetrious Johnson.
Da Silva, a member of the talent rich Nova Uniao gym, was once considered the number one ranked flyweight in the world. That was before da Silva suffered his first and only loss, dropping a unanimous decision to Ian McCall in 2011. Since then the Brazilian has bounced back with five consecutive wins, finishing his last four via submission.
I’ve been waiting for this chance to fight in the UFC for years and, finally, there is a flyweight division so I can showcase my skills,” Da Silva said. “I know Dodson is a powerful striker and is very fast, but I am a BJJ and judo black belt and am looking forward to the fight. I’ve been working very hard on my punches and have a good uppercut, and I am looking forward to showing this in the fight. I am looking forward to the whole UFC experience. I can’t wait to show the UFC fans what I can do.
