[BREAKING] UFC 153: Anderson Silva vs. Stephan Bonnar Takes the Headliner Spot!
STUDIO MMA, VENICE, CA — Things just keep getting stranger and stranger in the UFC. In the wake of the UFC 151 cancellation debacle, MMA’s leading promotion has announced a very unexpected headlining bout for UFC 153 on October 13 in Rio de Janeiro. Anderson “The Spider” Silva [32-4-0 MMA] will move up in weight to face Stephan “The American Psycho” Bonnar [14-7-0 MMA] at 205 pounds. USA Today broke the news earlier today.
Silva is coming off of a dominant TKO victory over loud-mouthed middleweight juggernaut Chael Sonnen at UFC 148. He was not scheduled to fight any time soon. However, with UFC 153 in shambles due to injuries for both Jose Aldo and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, the champion agreed to step up and take on Bonnar. Bonnar has been quite vocally clamoring for a big fight in recent months, and is coming off of 3 consecutive impressive victories over Krzysztof Soszynski, Igor Pokrajac, and Kyle Kingsbury.
The UFC also informed the Brazilian media outlet Tatame that Antonio Rodrigo “Big Nog” Nogueira [33-7-1- MMA] will be rounding out the suddenly talent-rich card in a heavyweight match-up against Dave “Pee Wee” Herman [21-4-0 MMA]. Big Nog has been sidelined since a loss to Frank Mir in which he suffered a horrific arm break due to a kimura.
