Bisping vs. Stann & Benavidez vs. Johnson set for UFC 152
STUDIO MMA, RIVERSIDE, CA – Middleweight contenders Michael Bisping and Brian Stann have verbally agreed to meet in the co-main event at UFC 152. Also, Joseph Benavidez and Demetrious Johnson will headline the card, as they battle for the inaugural UFC flyweight title. UFC officials confirmed the bouts.
UFC 152 will also feature a welterweight showdown between former champion B.J. Penn and rising star Rory Macdonald. Set to take place on September 22 at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Stann [12-4-0 MMA, 6-3-0 UFC] recently knocked out Alessio Sakara at UFC on Fuel TV 2. Prior to the bout, Stann was coming off a second round submission (Arm-Triangle Choke) loss to Chael Sonnn at UFC 136.
Bisping [22-4-0 MMA, 12-4-0 UFC] is coming off a close but unanimous decision loss to Chael Sonnen at UFC on FOX 2, which snapped the Brits four fight winning streak.
Benavidez [16-2-0 MMA, 3-0-0 UFC] made his flyweight debut in March at UFC on FX 2, finishing (TKO) Yasuhiro Urushitani in the second round to advance to the flyweight tournament finals.
Meanwhile, Johnson [15-2-1 MMA, 3-1-1 UFC] fought to a draw in his flyweight debut against Ian McCall at UFC on FX 2. In the rematch Johnson proved too much for McCall, defeating the Californian native via unanimous decision at UFC on FX 3 to claim his spot in the flyweight finals.
