JDS Wants Overeem to Take Blood Tests If They Ever Fight
STUDIO MMA, RIVERSIDE, CA – Reigning UFC Heavyweight Champion Junior dos Santos – who’ll rematch Cain Velasquez in his second title defense at UFC 152 – is and always has been against performance enhancing drugs (PEDs).
Dutchman Alistair Overeem failed his UFC 146 pre-fight drug test. Resulting in a 9 month suspension and Dos Santos instead fought Frank Mir.
Though JDS beat Mir via TKO in the second round, it was made public after the bout that Mir, ironically, was receiving testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) treatments. As well, Mir received a therapeutic use exemption (TUE) from the NSAC prior to the fight.
Dos Santos has been very verbal and critical of Overeem’s failed test. Wanting blood tests taken from Overeem and himself if they ever meet inside the octagon.
Via ESPN’s MMA Blog:
I would like him to do a test — a blood test,” dos Santos said. “I think we both need to do that. I want a clean fight and he needs to prove he is not under any kind of substances.
Using drugs is completely unnecessary, and I am the living proof. I’m the champion, and I never used any kind of forbidden substances. Fighting a guy that uses these kinds of drugs is completely unfair and useless. With or without any kind of authorization [for using testosterone], the fighter who uses those substances is never fighting with his own skills. He is enhancing his power with those drugs.”
