Cain Velasquez Does Not Have a Broken Hand After All
STUDIO MMA, RIVERSIDE, CA – You can take Cain Velasquez off the growing list of injured UFC fighters.
Junior Dos Santos’ jiu-jitsu coach, Yuri Carlton, initially announced Velasquez broke his hand in his win over Antonio Silva at UFC 146. Meaning the rematch won’t take place until December.
Although Velasquez’s head coach, Javier Mendes, confirmed to MMAFighting.com that Velasquez’s hand is perfectly fine. Mendez cites Dos Santos’ camp was going by the Nevada State Athletic Commission’s post-fight medical suspension list. Showing that if Velasquez did indeed break his hand he would be out until November, but x-rays showed no break.
“We’re looking at Sept. 22 as fight day,” Mendes said.
Dos Santos vs. Velasquez 2 will possibly headline UFC 152, with Rory MacDonald vs. B.J. Penn as the co-main event.
