UFC 149: Thiago Silva Out, Shogun Refuses to Face Glover Teixeira

STUDIO MMA, RIVERSIDE – Thiago Silva has been forced to withdrawal from his scheduled UFC 149 bout against Mauricio “Shogun” Rua [20-6 MMA, 4-4 UFC], due to an undisclosed injury.  Currently, the UFC is trying to replace Silva with Glover Teixeira [18-2 MMA, 1-0 UFC].  However, Dana White claims that Shogun wants nothing to do with Teixeira.

Glover made his long awaited debut at UFC 146, finishing TUF alum Kyle Kingsbury in the opening round with an arm-triangle choke submission. After the bout, Glover commented that his ‘dream’ fights are with Shogun and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.

With Thiago hurt, we turned to Glover and asked him to go right back in to fight ‘Shogun’ at UFC 149,” White told MMAjunkie.com. “But ‘Shogun’s’ people are adamantly refusing to take the fight. They want nothing to do with Glover.”

Former light heavyweight champion, Rua is coming off a unanimous decision to upcoming title challenger, Dan Henderson at UFC 139. In what many are calling one of the best fights in UFC history.
